Too bad we can't declare just one politician as state timewaster... Recent news out of Jefferson City shows that politicians are more interested in naming a state invertebrate and state mushroom instead of tackling a state emergency, such as eminent domain reform. If our elected representatives feel that there is enough time to handle such mundane tasks, then perhaps Missouri voters should boot them out of office during the next election cycle or consider amending the state constitution to sharply curtail the amount of time the legislature is in session. One would have thought that by enacting term limits we would have encouraged them to use the precious little time they are a flash-in-the pan "power monger" in this state. Instead, annually we gets more silly debates on designating a state language; designating a state mammal. Big friggin' deal. Meanwhile, the roads are crap, one of our metro areas (KC) has a school district that lacks accreditation and public confidence, and let's not even touch the "BIG" issues of welfare and tort reform.

I am sure it is far easier to have a spirited debate about naming the Wooly Mammoth v. the Stegasaurus as our the official state extinct animal, but clearly that isn't what anybody expects out of our public officials who draw their pay out of the public coffers.

Step up, legislators, or get the heck out of the way for somebody that CAN govern us.
